Slow Down to Speed Up

A five-minute reflection by Dr. Suresh Devnani

Clarity comes from stillness. Use this worksheet when your day feels driven by urgency, before a difficult conversation, or at the beginning of a team session. You do not need to solve everything. Give one important choice your full attention.

1. Pause

Set aside five quiet minutes. Let the next task wait while you write. What is asking for my attention today?

2. Notice

What am I treating as urgent? Which part is a fact, and which part is an expectation or assumption?

3. Name what matters

What would make this day meaningful? Name one value you want your next choice to express.

4. Choose one action

What can I simplify, postpone or discuss? Choose one small action within your responsibility, and say when you will take it.

5. Return with intention

Who needs a clearer conversation or a little more attention from me? Write the first question you will ask, then revisit your action tomorrow.

For facilitators

Allow five minutes of individual reflection. Invite participants to share only an action they are comfortable discussing. Agree a time to revisit it. This is a reflective exercise, not a scored or diagnostic assessment.
